Emma Hardy MP Comments on Meeting with Jo Johnson, Rail Minister

“The Northern Rail timetabling fiasco has brought the dire state of the North’s railways to national attention, but as Ian Kelly, chief executive of Hull + Humber Chamber of commerce said, even once the timetabling issue is sorted, Hull will still face an inferior service.

“As things stand, we’re one of the only major cities with no connection to an international airport, our Hull to Manchester service has been downgraded from an express to a stopper and the government still won’t tell us when the line will be electrified.

“For too long, it has felt like Hull has been left behind and forgotten by the Government in London and that’s why I’m delighted that Diana Johnson has secured a meeting with the Rail Minister today to discuss these issues and to be helping her with this initiative. We can only achieve the results we want when all three of Hull’s MPs are working together and standing up for the residents of Hull against this incompetent Tory government. This is what Diana, Karl and I have been doing consistently for the last year and this is what we’ll continue to do until we get the transport system that Hull deserves.”
